My real name is Anna Nádasdy and my lineage is one of royal bloodlines. I was born in 1585 unto Ferencz Nádasdy and Erzebet Bathory at Cachtice Castle in present-day western Slovakia. My father was a brave man who performed as chief commander of the Hungarian troops and was feared among the Turks he warred against. He was known as the "Black Beg" and was said to be just as cruel as he was brave. My mother was a Countess who ran the affairs of our land as well as the defenses. She was a strong woman who was very educated and beautiful.
My life as a child was not a typical one. It was a blessed one, I had many servants at my beck and call. My mother and father spared no expense when it came to our clothing, only the finest silks were allowed to touch our skins. When our father was assassinated at the request of General Giorgio Basta, which has been denied through history and dismissed only as a theory, our mother took my younger sister Katalin and I down to her secret chamber in the dungeon. I was 17 and Katalin was only 8.
Our mother was known for her beauty and on this day, she confided with us her secret. As she opened the door to her secret chamber, a wave of coppery smell and an iron taste filled our mouths. "Do not be afraid", our mother said as she put her arm around little Kati and held my hand. She led us into the chamber, there was a bathtub in the center of the room filled with a dark red substance that had to be blood. There were bloodstains all over the walls and floors and mother's closest maids were cleaning them furiously. Mother then stripped her clothes and instructed us to do the same. She then stepped into the tub and asked us to join her.
"Anna, Kati...you know that your mother is considered a beautiful woman, no?" mother asked us. We both nodded nervously as we stepped into the tub to sit with our mother. We felt the dense warm liquid ooze around our bodies and smelled the heavy coppery smell as we sat awkwardly in this blood bath with our mother. Then, in 1602, a Lutheran priest István Magyari, began accusing my mother of abducting young girls. This from a man who seduces young girls in his spare time! I could not believe the events that unfolded the following years after...I only heard about them through messengers because once the accusations started, our mother had sent us away into hiding in Paris. In 1610, King Matthias II assigned the Palatine of Hungary, Juraj Thurzó, to investigate the accusations. They charged into our castle on December 29, 1610.
As punishment, they locked our mother away in the North tower of our castle. We heard from our mother every once in a while, she was such a strong woman that she didn't want to burden her daughters. Under her instruction, we changed our identities to Oktober and Sundai Bloodkiss and lived out the lavish Parisian lifestyle that we so easily adapted to. After 2 years mother had been locked away, we received an urgent message to gain access to her tower and visit her.
Being raised in a castle on the border of warring lands, you learn alot of things for survival, and our mother made sure we were prepared to fight as well as any man. Being raised by a cunning intelligent woman, teaches you how to outwit others. We snuck into the tower and went to see our mother.
It was a ghastly site! Her cheeks were sunk in so bad you could see her bones and her skin was so pale it seemed sheer. She waved us over to her bed and we sat down as she indicated with her gestures.
