Maetthias was just another happy man with a wife and two children. He worked hard during the week as a smith and spent his weekends at home with the family or, occasionally, at the tavern with his drinking pals. Rumors came and gone all the time of monsters and ghosts that plagued nearby cities, but having never seen them himself, he was inclined to push them aside. Late one night when he heard shouting from a neightbor's house, those hooligan friends of his were up to no good, or so he thought. After leaving his home to check it out, the situation became completely different. A beastly creature attacked him and almost would have killed him if the townsfolk hadn't have shown up. In the shape he was in, any man would have said he was already done for, and so he was left there until the guards could clean it up. To the town's surprise, when they came back to clean it up, the body was gone. Maetthias knew what had become of him, and he wasn't going to waste time trying to run from it, and so his only option was simply to embrace his new life and leave the old one behind.
